Episode 4 – Game Music & Nostalgia Glands

So we all got together again and, Lord help us, made another one of these terrible podcasts! This episode is about video game soundtracks, with the usual features all thrown in there too, so let’s see what went down, shall we?

This episode also has an interesting new feature, What Really Grinds My Chode, in which Stu and Ryan tell Winst0lf all about what’s been annoying them recently!

What have we been playing?

Ryan

The “Pretty Boy” of the podcast, Mr. Monotone himself, has been playing some interesting titles this month. First on the list is Spellbreak, a Battle Royale type game featuring magical combatants and a fantastical, cartoon aesthetic. He’s also been trying out Pacify, a horror game centred around a ghost girl with balance issues and animated dolls that run around like toddlers. He’s also been enjoying a few games of Apex Legends, which he seems to be enjoying.

Stu

Our hype man tried out the 10 hour free trial for Anthem, which he found to be a flawed but not unenjoyable experience that he feels will be better in a few weeks as content rolls out. Shadow of the Tomb Raider has also been played, Stu having experienced confusion as to why everyone speaks English, even long lost Central American civilizations, and who installs back doors out of these tombs, why doesn’t Lara use those to get in? He’s also been hitting up Apex Legends, the Egerton brothers once again synchronising!

Winst0lf

The most beautiful of the gang is still plugging away at Resident Evil 2, having finally reached those B scenarios, as well as still paragliding around Hyrule with Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Persona 5 is also still on the boil. He has, however, started playing the remaster of Final Fantasy IX on the Switch, which is turning out to be a good remaster of a PS1 classic. The gang also have a worrying theory about Zidane’s tail.

The News

The boys take a look at some news items from the last couple of weeks, such as Nintendo of America’s suspiciously named new head man, EA Australia laying off a lot of unfortunate staff and Fallout 76 getting some future new content to flesh it out a little, for free!

Main Feature

In this illustrious episode of Shart Select, our ragtag trio turns all 6 of their ears toward the greats of the video gaming audio world. Such classics as Streets of Rage, the Sonic and Mario series and Halo all get a mention, along with a good few others.

Thank you to our listeners who sent in some input for this episode, let their names forever be honoured:
