Episode One – Thomas the Smack Engine

Hello everybody! Hello!

So here we are, having survived recording our inaugural episode. How many people will listen to it? Maybe a million people or maybe just you, dear reader, but either way we had a fun time and talked about some pretty cool things.

We had a pretty strict structure going in, but when 3 friends that haven’t talked like this together in years get together it’s bound to go off the rails!

What we have been playing:

In each episode I ask Stu and Ryan what games they’ve been playing and we have a lovely little discussion about them. They even let me mention mine too, which is nice!

Stu: The older Egerton brother, ensconced in his secluded fortress of Manchester, has been playing Battlefield 5 for the most part (and has been having lots of fun with balance changes!). He’s also been slowly driving about in the muck in Spintyres (tires?) and has been exploring the online world of Red Dead Redemption 2 as his “tramp cowboy”, Skullwagon, a traditional wild west name.

Ryan: Everyone’s favourite night shift vampire has been filling his days with some of the excellent Prey (2016), or rather the DLC for that game. He splattered some Mimics in the multiplayer game and is enjoying the single player element too. He’s also put Far Cry 5 to bed, having sorted out those pesky Seed siblings and had the ending spoiled by the announcement for the sequel! He’s also completed the divisive Darksiders 3 and has been playing on naughty Rock & Roll Racing clone Motor Rock.

Craig: What’s yours truly been up to, then? Well for the last few weeks pretty much Red Dead Redemption 2, I really got drawn into Arthur Morgan’ story! Since I’ve now completed that game I’m now back playing Sega’s strategy RPG Valkyria Chronicles 4, with all its anime madness! My final entry is Pokemon Fire Red on the Gameboy Advance, which is well worth a play.

We also discussed some movies, DareDevil season 3, Punisher and a few other bits and bobs.

The Main Feature

Each episode we intend to tackle a different subject. Will it be a big, important, world changing subject? Probably not. For the first episode we have been current as all heck and discussed Sony’s polarizing mini console and listed which classic games we would’ve put on it. Needless to say some very interesting choices surfaced and Stu, a huge Die Hard fanboy, surprised us all!

Are our versions better?

Movie Pitch

It’s not all video games on Shart Select, sometimes we try our hands at being big shot movie pitchers instead. Now the plan here is to use story dice to aid in making up some truly impromptu (and no doubt incorrigible) pitches. But for the first episode we wheeled out a classic idea from many years ago, the gritty reboot to Thomas to the Tank Engine, as directed by Guy Ritchie. Its got cockney locomotives, a deadly variant of Harold the Helicopter and Alan Ford as Diesel.

We hope you enjoy our first ever attempt at a podcast and that you come back next time for more, you dirty animals.
